Let us have five subs in non-league

Moneys boss: It would be good for players at our level

-

Dave Carter has called for the five substitute rule to be introduced throughout the non-league pyramid.

The Moneyfields manager insists the ruling must filter down through the divisions after being cleared to be implemented in the Football League.

EFL clubs this week voted for an increase from three to five changes per match which will come into force from this weekend for the remainder of the season.

As things stand, nonleague clubs are only permitted three subs.

That is something Carter wants to see changed with non-elite players across the country facing a crazy schedule if and when campaigns resume after lockdown.

Moneys, for example, have a minimum of 36 games still to play in 2020/21.

Carter feels it is going to stretch semi-pro players - many of whom have full-time jobs - to their limits.

An increase to five subs could ease the burden on lower level footballers.

‘I think that (the five sub rule) should come all the way down,' said Carter.

‘I don’t see why it would be different in leagues above to any other leagues.

‘I don’t see why it doesn’t come all the way down to us.

'Why give them (the EFL) the benefit of having five subs and not us? Especially as we’ve got so many games to play.

'You’ve got bricklayers and scaffolders going to work and then having to come play football at night.

‘They’re going to run out of steam and fatigue.

‘If they’re doing it at the pro level, why not do it at our level?

‘They should be trialling it at our level and pushing it up, not the over way around.'

Carter believes it would also give a boost to players involved in match-day squads with everyone knowing they could have a role to play.

‘Generally, as managers, you put your first two subs on but you hold your third just in case you get an injury.

'It would be good for the lads to know that you’re travelling all the way to Evesham and places like that - you travel all the way there you take five subs with you and two of them know they’re not going to be playing.

‘I’ve found that a little bit strange over the years. ‘Even if they just say you can take five subs and use five, it helps out - everyone knows they’ve got a chance of getting on the field.' Moneyfields’ home FA non-league clubs can only make a maximum of three subs a game

Trophy tie with Truro City has been confirmed for Saturday, December 5.

Should Moneys beat their higher division visitors, and advance to the second round for the first time ever, they will be back in Trophy action on Tuesday, December 15.

The third round - the stage when Hawks and their National League South rivals enter the competition - will then take place just four days later, on December 19.

They should be trialling it at our level and pushing it up, not the other way around Moneyfields boss Dave Carter
