‘Hiwula will get chance’
I do feel things will open up for Jordy, says Pompey’s boss
KENNY JACKETT has told Jordy Hiwula his chance will come as the clamour grows for his Pompey inclusion.
And the Blues’ boss underlined he sees the attacking talent’s opportunity coming as a central attacking option as he pushes for playing time.
Fans are keen to get a better look at Hiwula after being restricted to four appearances and just eight minutes of action off the bench in League One.
The 26-year-old showcased what he has in his locker with a moment of quality in the FA Cup against King’s Lynn Town on Saturday, as he grabbed his maiden Pompey goal.
After Pompey shot a blank at Blackpool, Jackett has to find the best way of getting the division’s top scorers firing against promotion rivals Peterborough United on Saturday.
And that means weighing up whether Hiwula has a role to play against the Posh.
Jackett said: ‘Jordy was out of contract and looking for a club.
‘He’s never been out of our 18, which is a good thing.
‘But, similarly, he would maybe have liked more minutes than what he’s had.
‘I do feel things will open up for him.
‘I rate him as a player and I do feel he’s a good player.
‘There was a little cameo on Saturday of what he can do.
‘It was a terrific finish and he lined up to do that two or three times, before he scored to do the same.
‘He’s a good addition for us, definitely, and I’m sure his playing time will come.
‘We’ve been pleased with what he’s done so far.’
Hiwula has shown a turn of foot which has the potential to add to Pompey’s attacking armoury in the coming weeks.
Although having the potential to play out wide, Jackett made it clear he sees the former Coventry City man playing as a central striker or support role through the middle.
He added: ‘He’s a good finisher, a good finisher – particularly off his right foot.
‘He has pace but I do feel he needs to play in a central role.
‘He has played some of his football wide, but I do prefer him central.
‘Then he has the ability to stretch and get behind defenders.
‘He’s not always ideal to play up front on his own, but off a striker and as a striker I do feel is his best position.
‘From there, he has good pace down the side of defences to stretch them – and good finishing ability.
‘I’m pleased to add him. I’ve always liked him and he hasn’t disappointed since he’s been with us.’
