‘Consistent’ Raggett one of Kenny’s top signings

-

GAFFER for a Day, Geoff Fishlock, aged 72 from

Poole, delivers his verdict on Pompey’s 1-0 defeat at Blackpool on Tuesday night... It’ll be difficult not to be critical of that, I suppose? The performance was abject. Over the years you learn that Pompey have those displays.

You never know what you are going to get. Tuesday was reminiscent of those (early-season) displays against Doncaster and Wigan.

However, a few good results put together and everyone is thinking ‘Good old Kenny’. Then we saw that.

I don’t understand it. We are in a very good position and should be going out there competing – then it fell apart.

What did you make of Pompey as an attacking force?

Ronan Curtis, Ryan Williams and Andy Cannon were replaced because they were just not doing it. In fact, I would have taken Curtis off at half-time.

Yes he has scored a few goals, but on occasions his other work falls by the wayside. He has been out of sync for most of the season.

If Michael Jacobs was around, Curtis would be on the bench considering Jacobs was improving with games and greater fitness.

Williams was not particularly good. He chases backwards and forwards, but that’s about it. Ellis Harrison should have started.

Which player stood out for you?

Sean Raggett was my man of the match. He just keeps doing the right things, doing a consistently good job, much to everyone’s surprise, including me.

I always thought he was a bit awkward, but the longer he plays, the better he becomes. He makes the odd mistake, but so does everyone.

Raggett is winning tackles, his positional sense is good and he is probably one of Jackett’s best signings.

What did you make of the substitutions?

I feel sorry for Jordan Hiwula. We are chasing a goal and the manager brings on another left-back.

Against King’s Lynn he scored a good goal after being given space.

We’re not going to be scoring with two left-backs on the left, are we?

Geoff’s player ratings: MacGillivray 7, Johnson 7, Whatmough 7, Raggett 7, Brown 6, Williams 4, Cannon 4, Naylor 7, Curtis 4, Harness 6, Marquis 6.
