A new book exploring the soul of a football club saved by its fans is out this Christmas

Pompey: The Island City With A Football Club For A Heart follows the 2019-20 League One campaign with unparallel­ed behind-thescenes access.

Written by The News’ chief sports writer Neil Allen, it closely examines Pompey’s fall and rise, using accounts from 57 different people who have been at the very heart of it.

Candid, emotional, and, at times, absolutely heartbreak­ing, it offers a fascinatin­g insight into the Pompey family and a truly special football club.

McInnes, ex-managers Michael Appleton and Guy Whittingha­m, and former playing favourites Conor Chaplin, Christian Burgess, Gareth Evans, Benjani, Brett Pitman, Michael Doyle, Alan Knight and Carl Baker.
