Join a live nativity online
By THE REV DR MARY KELLS, curate, St Faith’s Church, Lee-on-the-Solent
We won’t be able to perform our popular live Nativity this year – so instead we’ve decided to take it online!
St Faith’s Church in Lee-on-the
Solent invites you to watch our original 15-minute film, entitled ‘Your King Has Come’. It features two dozen performers from bubbled family groups, telling the story of Jesus’s birth.
It was written by local children’s author Donna Vann, a member of our congregation, who created the scripts for the live Nativity last year and wrote new material to suit this year’s bubbled actors.
It was a challenge to keep everyone two metres away from cameras and microphones. We also had a one-way system for rehearsals and Covid-safe props and costumes, all of which was tricky. But the result was worth it!
Donna realised performances on stage and on screen are quite different. She added King Herod, which gives the story a real structure.
We put a call out to anyone interested in performing and nearly 30 people responded – single people, whole families, children and grandparents. Many had never acted before, but they worked hard and pulled it off.
Your King Has Come has already had its premiere in church last weekend, (Dec 13) and will be shown again as part of our Christingle family services – at 4pm on Sunday (Dec 20) and at 4pm and 6pm on Christmas Eve.
At those services, households will sit together and make their Christingles as part of the service . Then we’ll watch ‘Your King Has Come’ to share together in the Christmas story.
Almost all the spaces to attend the Christingle Services have been taken, but you can check if there are any spare places via: stfaithslee.org/christinglebooking. For those unable to get to church, it will also be available on the St Faith’s Facebook page and YouTube during Christmas.
It’s going to be a great way of engaging all ages with the joy of the first Christmas – even though Christmas for many of us this year will be different to normal.
