Keep New Year promise to take that weight off!

Across the UK many of us will be making mostmade New Year’s resolution ... the pledge to lose weight!

According to YouGov, last year 48 per cent of us set ourselves the goal of dropping the pounds.

It is a promise we make so we can give ourselves permission for one last round of indulgence over the Christmas period, writes Sue Wilkinson.

NHS weight loss plan

Develop healthier eating habits, be more active and get on track to start losing weight with a free, easy-tofollow, downloadab­le guide.

It will help you to work towards losing weight at a safe and sustainabl­e rate of 0.5kg to 1kg (1lb to 2lbs) a week. For most men, this will mean consuming no more than 1,900kcal a day, and for most women 1,400kcal.

You can also get your own personal calorie target using the BMI calculator. There are also charts to fill in so you can monitor your progress.

Weight Watchers

Second Nature

This is a NHS-backed, three-month weight-loss programme.

The Second Nature app lets you set your own targets to change your behaviour and achieve a healthier lifestyle. Your online health coach and support group will help you to eat well, be more active and stay motivated.

The three-month programme is designed to encourage you to make better lifestyle choices and help avoid developing conditions like type 2 diabetes.

To join you must be over 18 years of age, based in the UK and have a body mass index (BMI) over 21.

“Tech subscripti­on”, you will receive 3G scales and an activity tracker that link with the app so you can monitor your progress as you go. The Second Nature nutritiona­l handbook and recipe book are also included.
