Supporters to get ticket refunds for Trophy final

-

POMPEY fans will receive refunds for tickets purchased for the 2020 EFL Trophy final against Salford City.

The Blues have revealed that a meeting between themselves and EFL and Salford officials on Monday came to the conclusion that all fans who bought tickets for the Wembley fixture deserved their money back.

The final was due to be played on Sunday, April 5, with more than 50,000 Pompey tickets sold for the occasion.

However, nine months later, the game is still to be played because of coronavirus.

It was hoped that the fixture would be played before this season’s final on March 14, with fans in attendance.

However, no new date has been set amid rising Covid-19 concerns nationwide, with the Salford fixture now likely to be played behind closed doors when a decision is made.

A statement from Pompey confirming fans’ refunds read: ‘The EFL, Portsmouth and Salford City met yesterday to discuss the postponed 2019/20 EFL Trophy final.

‘A decision was taken that all supporters who purchased tickets for the match at Wembley Stadium will receive a refund.

‘Further discussions will now take place to arrange a new date for the match to be held.

‘Portsmouth Football Club would like to thank all fans for their continued patience and understanding.

‘Information on how refunds will be processed will be announced in due course.’

The Blues last night exited this season’s competition – now known as the Papa John’s Trophy – as they lost 5-1 away to Peterborough United in the last 16.

Posh were one of seven teams – all from League One – to book their place in the quarter-finals last night.
