Not the only news

-

I was watching BBC QT last week and the entire program centred around Covid-19 with the same old questions asked, and same old answers given.

We’ve been force-fed Covid-19 for almost a year now so it’s no wonder people’s mental health is suffering. Just like QT the week before, it was a different set of faces but nothing else had changed, a classic waste of an hour.

This puzzled me however because although the pandemic is serious it doesn’t really merit covering 24/7 by every news outlet on planet earth with some morbid daily death toll, especially because something potentially even more serious is brewing in the USA as Washington is being turned into an armed camp with 20,000 troops deployed to protect Joe Biden’s inauguration on Jan 20.

Having to deploy that much firepower for his swearing in ceremony doesn’t augur well for his presidency as some of Trump’s 70m supporters look to give him some of the protests that were meted out to their man.

It’s also reported that every state capital is also making the same preparations as the US looks like it could be on the road to its second Civil War.

This is not as far fetched as it seems because many of those troops and national guardsmen are Republican voters and support Trump as do many cops. This coupled with the fact that the US citizenry are the most heavily armed in the world makes for a dangerous mix.

When you take into account Trump got even more votes this time round it seems foolish that the Democrat majority in congress should seek retribution for any of Trump’s transgressions both real and imagined.

My advice to them is they won the election so forget Nancy Pelosi’s rabid hatred for Trump and just move on because his supporters already wrongly think he was cheated out of an election win, and he’s been pilloried by the media and political establishment from day one (there’s a grain of truth in that).

To martyr him when he’s just about to leave office is a big mistake and ensuring the nation will stay just as divided under

Biden as under Trump. The US needs our help and support now as
