SHOP LOCALLY – IT WASN’T JUST FOR CHRISTMAS

- BY RYAN TOMLINSON

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a substantial impact on the economy and has resulted, unfortunately, in a lot of small businesses having to shut down for good.

So why not try, one this third national lockdown is finally lifted, to shop locally and support these small businesses in their time of real need?

The post-Christmas blues hit all of us and January is usually a tough month financially to recover from all that Christmas spending.

However, it does not mean you cannot treat yourself to some of the luxuries that you are used to.

Who says, again once lockdown is finally lifted, that you cannot get your hair or nails done for an affordable price by going to those shops which have people training?

Patronising these small businesses not only allows these trainees to gain the necessary experience, but also for the organisation to gain exposure by winning recommendations from you which will get your friends and family to visit local businesses.

Shopping locally also provides warmth for the community and will stop the high turnover of shops opening and closing because, let’s face it, none of us likes walking down the high street and seeing the majority of the shops shut.

Spread your spending. Go to your local greengrocers, bakery or butchers to receive the fresh produce that will satisfy you and the small businesses that need your clientele to survive.

So why not try to make one of your new year resolutions to be to do more shopping locally throughout the whole year (lockdowns permitting) and not just at Christmas.
