These overpriced kids’ toys are a danger and need stringent checks

-

Sometimes people come up with what they think is a good idea, only to find out later that they really didn’t think it through to the end.

A prime example is the ‘smart motorway’ where turning the safety provision for broken down vehicles into a live lane so people can save a few minutes on their journey, was not such a good idea after all. Of course, this is all down to someone called Highways England, not a real person.

So, when I look at a picture in the News of five pink scooters, well! This is the force to do away with pollution and make all the cars go away. If the plan aims to cut commuter car use I would just like to pose a simple question to start off, how does the person hiring the e scooter get to the docking station please? Cosham train station I can understand, but QA Hospital maybe for those going home after their operation or leaving A&E. Gunwharf, St James Hospital and Southsea seafront, walking in from where, but if they come by car with more than one occupant? But enough of the levity.

Apart from who pays what to whom and where does the money go in this scheme, these overpriced kids’ toys are a danger. Lack of proper legislation will lead to issues around who is eligible to ‘ride’ these scooters, and what the situation would be in case of any accident with regards to insurance. These are devices that can travel at five times the average walking speed. Who will be responsible for regulating the use, and who will be checking the hiring conditions? This is a virtue signalling appeasement project, and possibly not all the negatives thought through.
