Super-peninsula doubts

-

I am writing to express my outrage at the way that PCC have handled the Tipner West ‘super-peninsula’ project.

Cllr Hugh Mason admitted this week to ‘doubts’ that the government would ever give permission to build on Tipner West.

But the council have approved a staggering £8m of taxpayers’ money just to ‘prepare’ the planning application and they are going ahead with all kinds of survey work, but nothing has been said about the effects on ‘global warming’ caused by the release of CO2 from stored organic carbon in the mud-flats.

It is a well-known fact that our estuaries are huge carbon ‘sinks’, referred to as equivalent to the tropical rain forests in terms of the concentration of organic carbon and natural ecosystems.

I remember this being headline news on the BBC about a year ago when they revealed how essential they were in the fight against climate change.

But PCC continue to press ahead with their grandiose plans to rip up 67 acres of the organic habitat and release huge amounts of CO2 and other green house gases into the atmosphere.

Their ignorance and hypocrisy is beyond belief and the megaamounts of public money and resources they are wasting on a daily basis is criminal.

Yet Cllr Vernon Jackson is still glorifying the project as a ‘huge achievement’ in the latest progress report sent out this week.

I was a planning officer for over 30 years and have never come across such a badly managed, waste of public money, ever before.
