SPONSORED BY PORTSMOUTH COLLEGE WINNER: MATTHEW HASKETT, APOLLO FIRE DETECTORS
CURIOSITY, enthusiasm and desire to learn made Matthew Haskett stand out from the crowd.
Matthew is a Level 3 Maintenance & Operations Engineering Technician at Apollo Fire Detectors, a fire detection solution manufacturer in Havant.
He was recommended by his bosses for his role introducing bespoke automation equipment to the firm.
They said he had been key to a number of engineering improvements to the equipment, both as part of a collaborative team but also as an individual.
Matthew said: ‘I’m ecstatic to win this award. It’s not something that I expected. I didn’t even expect to be nominated for the award.
‘It’s been a very difficult year for everyone and to come out with this award is outstanding. To be on that level is amazing.
‘A lot of people supported me throughout my whole education and it was nice to be put forward for the award by my team.
‘I’ve learnt a lot from others and want to keep learning and adapting. Not a day goes by when I’m not learning something.’
As well as coming up with innovative ideas to solve manufacturing problems, Matthew has also designed and built a number of standalone pieces of equipment which have been used in production to remove health and safety risks, mitigate quality issues and improve production output.
His bosses said that throughout his apprenticeship, Matthew had pushed himself to achieve the perfect grades, build his knowledge and to learn new skills.
