God bless the band: The Courteeners hold court!
North West indie darlings The Courteeners have announced a new tour. But before that, massive summer gigs are set to take place with headline shows to warm up.
Ahead of The Whites Of Their Eyes Tour, which kicks off later this year with special guests Vistas and Brooke Combe in London, the band play Leicester 02 Academy on September 7, followed the night after by Scarborough Open Air Theatre show, also featuring special guests The Coral.
These unmissable dates are among warm-ups ahead of Courteeners’ headline gig at Glasgow’s TRNSMT Festival and huge hometown show at Manchester’s Emirates Old Trafford cricket stadium, which sold out in just 90 minutes.
Promoter Peter Taylor said: “This is amazing news for Courteeners fans and Scarborough OAT.
“I’ve always wanted to bring this brilliant band here so, to be able to present this exclusive warm-up show ahead of their headline spot at TRNSMT and their massive hometown show in Manchester, is just fantastic.
“Courteeners sold 50,000 tickets for their Manchester show in just 90 minutes so fans had to be quick here because the Scarborough show promised to sell-out fast!”
The 8,000-capacity Scarborough Open Air Theatre show is presented by Cuffe and Taylor. Tickets are on sale via scarboroughopenairtheatre.com website.
The Courteeners released their critically acclaimed seventh top ten studio album More. Again. Forever early last year.
The band, who have been friends since childhood, have grown into one of the UK’s premier guitar bands, delivering such era-defining anthems as Not Nineteen Forever, Are You In Love With A Notion, How Good It Was, The 17th and last year’s Hanging Off Your Cloud.
In 2019 they sold out their own 50,000 capacity show at Heaton Park in Manchester and headlined major festivals across the country.
The Whites of Their Eyes tour will mark 15 years since the long-running indie favourites played their first gig in October 2006 at Manchester Roundhouse.
The tour runs a month after that anniversary.
Original band members have known each other since they were ten years old, all from Middleton.
From 2006 the band’s popularity rocketed. The Courteeners released their debut single Cavorting in 2007.
