Beautiful morning for George’s Lee run

Conditions were perfect at the idyllic seafront setting for 399 runners to complete their Saturday morning 5k at Lee-on-the-Solent.

First time visitor Gary Connell did not allow himself too long to take in the scenery, though, as he was first to make it back in a time of 17mins 24secs.

Teenager Ben Bradley was second with a PB of 17.55 and third was Joshua Goldfinch (City of Portsmouth AC), another teen, in 18.02.

Elsewhere, Southsea broke through the 400 barrier for number of finishers in their latest parkrun.

Another seafront course, the weather was beautiful with 402 runners finishing.

Alex Garbas (University of Portsmouth) was the first club runner to finish - he was third in 18.04.

Emma Jolley (City of Portsmouth) was first woman to finish, in ninth (19.25).

Fareham parkrun continues to prove popular following the post-pandemic resumption of events.

They totalled 337 finishers in their latest event.

Portsmouth Triathlete­s’ runner Zippy Grice is a course regular and he was timed as first to complete the 5k in a time of 18.11.

There was a PB for City of Portsmouth AC’s Samuel Colbourne, who followed in second (18.21).

Nikki Moxham (Gosport Road Runners) perenniall­y wins her Vet 45-49 age group category in parkruns. So it was again when she finished seventh overall in 19.37.

Serial race winner James Baker decided to take in the Havant parkrun.

The Chichester-based runner has now clocked up 252 parkruns and was first home (16:47).

Baker was one of 244 who completed the course in the latest event.

Liss RC’s Alex Coomber (Vet 45-49) was first female to finish in 28th (22.46), with Finney Coomber (Junior 11-14, City of Portsmouth AC) third female (36th, 23:14).

Portsmouth Lakeside’s latest parkrun saw 208 finishers.

Leading them home was Victory AC’s Richard Turner in a PB time of 19:11.

Next club runner to finish was Denmead Striders’ George Sutherland (fifth, 19:40).

First woman to finish was 23rd placed Nicola Thomas (Vet 40-44, Portsmouth Joggers Club) in 22:33.

Louise Griffin (Vet 40-44, Baffins Fitclub) was three places adrift in 22:52.
