The day Hawks hit six at Eastleigh ...

-

Jamie Collins was playing for Hawks when they belted six goals on the club’s first-ever league visit to Eastleigh 15 years ago.

Now a coach at Westleigh Park, Collins could well start tonight’s Hampshire Senior Cup tie at the Silverlake Stadium.

On the final day of the 2005/06 Conference South campaign, Hawks went to Eastleigh and dished out a 6-2 beating.

Brett Poate and Tom Jordan - like Collins, later to play for Eastleigh - were among the scorers that day as Hawks completed a league double.

Hawks also won on their second competitive visit to Eastleigh, Rocky Baptiste netting the only goal early in the 2006/07 season.

Hawksalsowon1-0atthe Silverlake in the 2009/10 season, by which time there was some bad blood between the two clubs.

Relations between the pair had become strained once Ian Baird - currently Hawks’ assistant boss - had left his role as Westleigh Park manager to take over at Eastleigh in October 2007.

Baird’s desire to sign centre half Tom Jordan so soon after his bombshell departure was met with a defiant not for sale’ message from the Hawks, who accused Eastleigh of offering ‘Mini money for a Rolls Royce.’

Jordan himself cranked up the tension by resigning the Hawks captaincy and publicly declaring he wanted to leave. He finally joined Eastleigh the following summer.

The last time Hawks played at Eastleigh was on New Year’s Day 2019 in a National League game.

Following the two clubs’ 2-2 Boxing Day draw at Westleigh Park - Michael Green sent off for the visitors just before Dan Strugnell’s 89th minute leveller Josh Hare’s 85th minute winner sentenced Hawks to defeat at the Silverlake.
