No imagination

-

It would seem yet another survey is in circulation regarding the proposed leisure and community centre in Bransbury Park.

We already have a large sports hall, café and community rooms in the existing building in the park so what extras are this administration offering for the cost of £12m?

In my opinion, a rather expensive learner pool and a four-lane 25m pool and a gym (no size has been given).

Months on and the parking still hasn’t been addressed.

The council has said: ‘It is extremely unlikely that a planning application would even get to a decision stage without providing a parking solution’, and yet there isn’t a plan to address the parking issues? I fear there is none. So let’s get real. Sort the parking and build a pool that’s not just another hole in the ground but a pool with all the facilities that the Mountbatten Centre enjoys and a walk-in pool for the disabled and the elderly who can’t manage the steep steps normally a feature of all other pools in the city.

You will have revenue from the sale of the Eastney Pool site (a prime location), and sadly from the Wimbledon Park site.

Perhaps the new centre could have a couple of badminton courts to compensate?

There’s no imagination – no common sense from an administration that could have demolished the Pyramids for £500,000 and rebuilt a leisure and community centre the whole of the south of the city could have been proud of, and left our park as is!

I miss my weekly swim and as an OAP it was something I looked forward to. I hope this doesn’t drag on like the Northern Quarter and Tipner plans have, while running up eye-watering costs! Annie Bradrick Milton
