There’s only one word to describe such tenacity

- JACK FARRUGIA

Amazing is something of an overworked word these days, but it is the perfect adjective for disabled former footballer Jack Farrugia. The inspirational 30-year-old has been defying medical belief ever since the day his life was forever changed, at the age of 17, by a car crash.

He survived but was left with severe brain damage, leaving him unable to talk, eat, drink or swallow.

It ended his promising football career, but his physical limitatons have done nothing to diminish his passion for active pursuits.

He entered the Great South Run in 2018, and walked the last 100 metres on foot, supported by a frame and his support workers.

Now he plans to raise money for his friend Josh Evans, who has a similar brain injury, after a motocross accident.

And he plans to do it in grand style — by abseiling down Portsmouth’s famous Spinnaker Tower — a feat which would leave many able-bodied people perspiring with fear and trepidation.

A court battle over insurance ensured Jack’s financial security, but he wants to help his friend Josh Evans, also 30, whom he has so far met only virtually.

Like Jack, Josh was an active young man, cut down in the prime of life by an horrific accident — in his case while enjoying his favourite.

Jack is now determined to raise as much money as he can to help improve his pal’s quality of life.

They are clearly kindred spirits and looking forward to the day they can meet in person.

Jack’s mum summed up their affinity: ‘Being in the same boat as Josh, we can see exactly what he is going through, and it makes Jack more determined than ever to do his bit.’

Determination, enthusiasm, lust for life, and an insatiable dessire to help others,

That’s Jack Farrugia. In a word: Amazing
