Make sure you vote

-

Near where I live, outside 2 Kent Road in Southsea, a plaque has been erected to mark the former HQ of the Suffragists in the city. They campaigned for universal suffrage and a vote for women.

Yet at the elections tomorrow only a minority of those registered to vote will do so.

Does the majority really believe what goes on in Downing street, parliament and the Guildhall has nothing to do with them?

Portsmouth Pensioners’ Association (PPA) is not aligned to any one political party, but it does campaign for an age-friendly city.

Our manifesto has been sent to all candidates.

It includes proposals for improving:

■ The take-up of benefits to which people are entitled

■ The street environment including benches and a ban on speeding traffic

■ The 55+ festival in the autumn

■ Computer training for older people

■ Access to NHS primary medical care and dentistry,

and no more cuts in the social care budget.

There are more than 33,000 voters in Portsmouth.

Make your vote count.

Dr Alan Burnett, President, PPA Sussex Road Southsea, Portsmouth
