Keyboard warrior
I fear for the state of Malcolm Garbutt’s memory if he thinks parliament was once a sacred place where the people who ran this country were held in high esteem and were all honest and trustworthy and there were no scandals (A cesspit, May 2).
Parliament has always had its share of the disreputable, dishonest, drunks, liars, cheats, misogynists, homophobes and the incompetent, but to tar them all with the sins of a small minority and label it a cesspit is grossly unfair and untrue.
Parliament represents all of humanity with its weaknesses but the vast majority are decent people trying to do their best for their constituents and the country and deserve better than Malcolm’s insults.
We live in one of the best democracies in the world and enjoy a level of free speech not available in many countries but free speech should come with a responsibility to be honest, decent and fair.
I wonder if he has ever confronted his own, very decent MP, with such accusations or is he just a keyboard warrior.
