Will a tablet entertain her for five hours in a plane?
We go on holiday next weekend; we’re off to Cyprus for 10 nights with my mum and her best friend. It will be our first overseas holiday with Harley and I am beside myself with excitement. I’m also a little nervous about what to take with us – having never holidayed abroad before with a child of our own.
I’ve never had the responsibility of thinking about what we need to take with us.
Despite my mum writing me a list of ‘must-haves’ I’m panicking slightly that I will forget something and we shall be across the world unable to do anything about it…well, not quite across the world, more like a hop, skip and a jump to the other end of the Mediterranean.
Needless to say I cannot wait to get on the plane.
Talking of planes, what on earth do I do to entertain Harley for nearly five hours?
I mean, I can’t entertain her that long at home for five hours let alone in a tube in the air.
Now, don’t judge me, but...our intention is to buy her a tablet this weekend to take with us so she can play some games on it during the flight.
Harley has never had a games device before and she had never really watched TV until about six months ago, so I have no idea if a tablet will be a help or a hindrance, but we will give it a go.
What I’m most excited about is having some quality time together as a family.
No phones, no work, no rushing about here, there and everywhere, just some quality time together in the sun.
Or at least that’s the plan.
I’m under no illusions about the type of holiday it will be.
It certainly won’t be the kind of break Matt and I are used too – for usually we don’t do much more than lie around the pool and sunbathe, drinking cocktails.
However, this time we shall have to be far more responsible.
Doubtless we’ll also find it challenging trying to look after her in the sun all day.
But I’m going to soak it all in and just really enjoy it for what it is.
For this will be our first holiday abroad with Harley and the first stamp in her passport.
