Walkers go distance for veterans
WALKERS from a city group are taking on a 14-mile hike to raise cash for a veterans charity.
80 volunteers from Portsmouth Remembers will join Pompey legend Guy Whittingham in walking around Portsea Island this Saturday (May 14) to fundraise for Forgotten Veterans UK, whose headquarters are at Fort
Cumberland in Southsea.
Cash raised will support the UK armed forces in providing critical care to veterans going through hardship.
The feat, Walk the Island, aims to increase the awareness of the charity within the Portsmouth community. Volunteers will raise as much as they can to fund the refurbishment of the Forgotten
Veterans crisis suite including 20 new bed suites.
The Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Frank Jonas & the Lady Mayoress will be making one of their last public activities by officially starting the walk at 10 am.
16 local businesses are supporting the walk including FatFace, StageCoach and Aqua Cars.
