Vintage fun as opticians hosts charity bake sale

-

TEAM members at a Havant opticians are set to swap their uniforms for tea dresses as they host a vintage-themed charity bake sale for Dementia Awareness Week.

Staff at Scrivens Opticians and Hearing Care on West Street will adopt vintage inspired fashion at their tea party on Wednesday as they raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s Society.

Hannah Gordon, branch manager, said: ‘It’s a cause we care about because dementia affects the lives of so many people in our community.

‘There is a real need for continued research and support, so any donations will be gratefully received.’

Dementia Awareness Week is taking place from today until Sunday.

Alzheimer’s Society has chosen ‘diagnosis’ as the theme of this year’s awareness campaign to encourage people who are concerned if they or a loved one may be experiencing signs of dementia to seek support and guidance.

Scrivens is supporting the charity for a seventh successive year because there is evidence of a link between uncorrected hearing loss and dementia, including Alzheimer’s.

Hannah added: ‘Left untreated, hearing loss can also leave people at risk of developing other problems such as isolation and depression.

‘If you think your ability to hear well has deteriorated over the past few years then we would recommend a free hearing check to identify any issues.’

Dementia Action Week is Alzheimer’s Society’s biggest and longest running awareness campaign. Each year, the charity works with individuals and organisations across the UK to encourage people to ‘act on dementia’.
