Stepping out for Walk to School Week

-

THOUSANDS of children and parents across Hampshire will be leaving the car at home this week as part of this year’s Walk to School Week challenge.

This year, 90,000 pupils from 375 schools across the county have signed up to walk to school for the week between May 16 and May 20.

The annual event hopes to encourage school children and their families to try walking to school, or part of the way, and hopefully continue to choose to walk to school more often.

Executive Lead Member for Economy, Transport, and Environment at Hampshire County Council, Councillor

Rob Humby, said: ‘Walking to school can help children be more active and arrive at school more alert, improving their general health and wellbeing while helping to ease congestion at the school gates.
