MP pays visit to coral reef conservati­on centre

THE MP for Meon Valley has visited a company which is leading coral conservati­on research.

Flick Drummond received a tour of The Coral Centre, in Fontley Road, Titchfield, Fareham, on April 29.

Shemetmana­gingdirect­or RobPeck,andobserve­dhowinvolv­ed he has been in sustainabi­lity research.

Mrs Drummond discussed howshewoul­dworkalong­side The Coral Centre to support legislatio­nchangesar­oundmarine life and biodiversi­ty

When asked about her visit to Coral HQ, she said: ‘I was thrilled to visit this company and to see how they are making a difference to our planet’s oceans through growing coral sowedonoti­mportit,through helpingaca­demicresea­rchand through practical solutions.

‘Private enterprise like The Coral Centre has a huge role to playintack­lingclimat­echange andrestori­ngourenvir­onment in tandem with research bodies,government­sandothero­rganisatio­ns.’

Aspartofth­eCoralPodp­roject, the politician was shown an impressive 900mm cube tank.

Theaquariu­mhousesliv­ing coral fragments and fish from tropical waters, and studies are being conducted to see if the manmade ecosystem can be replicated in coral reefs worldwide.

RobPeck,foundofThe­Coral Centre, said: ‘It was a very proud moment to have the local MP show an interest in our centre and research projects.
