Hughes still wins after conceding 100 points

Copnor A & E moved into joint top spot in the Portsmouth Billiards League by beating visiting Cowplain B 6-1.

Kev Harding and Ant Lacey gave Copnor a fine start with wins, the latter coming from behind to triumph 200195. Mick Hall won his game 200-176 before Cowplain’s Pete Gorvin won 200-168.

The last two games were close with Copnor’s Steve Hughes, giving away a 100 start, winning 200-177 and Steve Toms edging a close battle with Gary Curtis 200-196 thanks to a decisive 28 break at the end. Overall, Copnor won 1,168-1,094 to collect the bonus point.

Pompey Royals enjoyed life on the road as they beat Cowplain Misfits 5-2.

Chad Wainwright (200194) and Dave Chivers (200199) got the Royals off to a good start, but Misfits levelled through Dean Bates and Steve Dewhurst. John Wilson and Paul Chivers took Royals over the line, winning 1,1351,103 overall .

Stoke Sharks triumphed 4-3 at Waterloovi­lle C. Gary Wilton and Rob Derry Jnr got the hosts off to a flier, winning 200-185 and 200-170 respective­ly.

The Sharks got going thanks to Stuart Burton (200189) but that was cancelled out by Darren Harper. Chris Bishop (37 and 32 breaks) and Phil Ledington gave Sharks an overall 1,141-1,052 win to top the table alongside Copnor A & E.

Bellair X came from 0-3 down to beat Portcheste­r X. Neil Turp, Mark Kingswell and Karl Cake put Portcheste­r in control, but Steve Scott, Trevor Sanders (who won by just seven points) and Danny Lumsden levelled. Bellair took the extra point, winning 1,059-1,014 on aggregate.
