New chairman vows to ‘do her best’

THE new chairman of Hampshire County Council has issued a reminder to councillor­s of who they are truly working for.

Ex-county council vicechairm­an,CllrMargeH­arvey, waspromote­datthecoun­cil’s annual general meeting in Winchester on Thursday.

She replaces the outgoing Cllr Melville Kendal, and has decades of experience with East Hampshire District Council and parish councils.

In her opening speech, Cllr Harvey reminded all politician­s that first and foremost, they serve the residents of Hampshire.

She said: ‘Thank you for appointing me as your chairman - it’s a great honour and I will do my best to uphold the name of the council.

‘It’sapleasure­toworkwith such committed councillor­s and council officers, but we must all remember that we areheretos­ervetheres­idents of Hampshire, and must continue to be good and effective.

‘Mythemefor­theyearist­o promote health, and to make Hampshire a happier and healthier place to live.’
