Paramedics treated a woman who was seriously injured after scaffolding was blown off a roof.

Emergency services rushed to the scene in West Street, Fareham, yesterday afternoon.

Police and fire crews have set up a cordon, with the immediate surrounding area currently sealed off to the public.

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesman said a woman was badly injured and was being treated by medical personnel.

‘We were called just before 1.45pm to a report of scaffolding falling in West Street, Fareham,’ he added.

‘A woman has suffered serious injuries in the incident and is being treated by paramedics.’

The force added: ‘It is a multi-agency incident involving all emergency services who are on scene.

‘Please do not loiter or film us at work.

‘Be considerate of the injured party’s dignity.’

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said crews from Cosham and Fareham were deployed to the scene.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for ‘strong’ wind early yesterday, which was in place until 8pm last night.

‘Gusts of 40-50 mph are expected widely within the warning area, but some coastal areas may see gusts of up to 60mph,’ the organisation said.

The grip of the unsettled conditions is set to last for the rest of the week, with sunshine and heavy showers for many today and persistent rain in the south tomorrow

It is then set to become drier and brighter into the weekend, while temperatures may start to rise next week.

More rain is the last thing that Portsmouth area grassroots football clubs need.

Fleetlands face the gruelling prospect of playing their f i n a l s e ve n We s s e x League games of the season in just 10 days.

That is the farcical scenario on the agenda after Tuesday’s home game with Newport IoW was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
