It should be getting easier to communicate, not harder
On election day last Thursday, it took me back to the days when I was far more politically involved and motivated. Election day felt like any other ordinary day and I’ve left it rather late to compile my main article.
So what to write about with little more than two hours in which to submit same?
My husband gets frustrated at my inability to keep to one subject and my amazing ability to skip (without warning) to another! Naturally I expect others to be able to immediately change course with me. Why wouldn’t they be?
‘Keep up’ I message one friend when she’s not doing so. This is possibly a downside of messaging and texting on phones as opposed to ‘face to face’ communications.
Talking about face to face communications: I shan’t mention the place but some perceptive readers may be able to guess. Last week, I got exasperated trying to communicate with a certain place, being told ‘my call was important’. I was 3rd, then 9th, then 10th, in the queue etc (with accompanying, tinny music insulting my ears).
So I decided to get on a bus and present myself at said place. At my first port of call (which bar one other person waiting was amazingly quiet) within ten minutes I had seen two pleasant, helpful people and secured an appointment.
At my second port of call, I secured information that I was then able to use in an email to another department.
Within two hours I was back home, having enjoyed two free bus rides and had successful ‘face to face’ interactions with people who were able to help me straightaway.
What does this say?
It feels like certain places have telephone systems akin to users being expected to attempt to ‘storm the castle’, or possibly traverse the murky moat surrounding the castle first, before then embarking upon the castle drawbridge. That questionably may gain you access to where you then want to get to.
Although people reading this may well think I’ve gone off into fantasy land or worse, this is happening. Too many people are being left exasperated beyond belief with communications of every form. Communication should be getting easier, clearer and quicker.
This isn’t happening. Why?
