Sports Mail nostalgia – when Pitman double sunk Wycombe
Today we go back a handful of years to when Pompey made it four successive League One wins with a 3-2 victory away to Wycombe. Brett Pitman’s second-half double after Jamal Lowe opened the scoring earned the Blues all three points at Adams Park.

Pompey’s Jamal Lowe lashed home the opener after 17 minutes, but Blues keeper Craig MacGillivray twice had to be at his best to keep his side in the lead.
Pitman seized on a mistake by Anthony Stewart to double the visitors’ lead in the 46th minute, then Marcus Bean stabbed the ball home for Wycombe eight minutes later.

Pompey’s two-goal advantage with a brilliant 20-yard free-kick on the hour before Scott Kashket’s stunning volley made it 3-2 with eight minutes left.
The hosts pressed for an equaliser, but Pompey held on for all three points in front of an Adams Park crowd of 6,978.
The Blues went on to finish fourth in League One that season before losing 1-0 on aggregate to Sunderland in the play-off semi-finals. Lowe was their 15-goal leading scorer.

In the Premier League, AFC Bournemouth were beaten 3-1 at home by Burnley and bottom club Huddersfield Town lost 4-1 at home to Leicester City.
Norwich City took a step closer to the Championship title with a 4-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers at Carrow Road.
At the other end of the second tier, Ipswich Town recorded a rare win, beating fellow strugglers Bolton Wanderers 2-1.
League One leaders Luton Town were held to a 2-2 draw by Blackpool at Kenilworth Road and second-placed Barnsley went down 3-1 away to Burton Albion.
Runaway League Two leaders Lincoln City won 2-0 at MK Dons, while secondplaced Mansfield Town secured a single-goal victory at home to Cambridge United.
The fastest goal of the day was scored by Carlisle United’s Jamie Devitt against Bury after 29 seconds.
Havant & Waterlooville slipped deeper into National League relegation trouble with a 2-1 defeat at home to Harrogate Town.
Matt Patterson put Hawks in front from the penalty spot, but Michael Woods levelled the scores before half time and George Thompson headed Harrogate a deserved winner nine minutes from time.
Gosport Borough did their Southern League Premier Division survival hopes the power of good with a 2-0 victory at Salisbury thanks to goals from Charlie Davis and Sam Lanahan.
Baffins Milton Rovers slipped to a second successive home defeat, losing 2-1 to Bournemouth Poppies in the Wessex League Premier Division after Blu Boam had given them the lead.
