Shining a light on women’s achievements
A charity that helps communities across the world is hosting its third Annual Women’s Conference event for the wonderful women in the city of Portsmouth. URBOND, a Portsmouth-based charity is holding a glamourous Women’s Conference to celebrate women and girls from all different walks of life to shine a light on the achievements of women along with the challenges and barriers women face on a daily basis.
URBOND’s Community
Integration Programme is a charity working to improve racial harmony, equality and diversity for the public benefit. Since its inception, the charity has brought together over 50,000 people spanning 80 different nationalities in the city of Portsmouth.
Under the programme, we run the women’s empowerment group which was built off the back of charity representatives recognising that there is a still a need for tackling gender disparity within the UK and formed a group dedicated to addressing those challenges. The Women’s Conference event is held every year to bring together a wide range of women in the community of Portsmouth to promote female empowerment, diversity, women’s rights, celebrate culture and recognise the accomplishments of women in our city.
The event will include inspirational speeches from different women in Portsmouth, such as the event’s headline sponsor and female entrepreneur Sarah Roads (SLR Marine Recruit), Equality & Diversity activist Shipa Ahmed Khan and community treasure Becki Simmons.
Guests will enjoy entertainment from talented singer Gloria Miller and local DJ Molly Penney with an array of different foods to bring people together.
Ruby Plato, URBOND Women’s Event host, says “This event is such a beautiful, uplifting experience which celebrates the amazing women we have in our community and allows a chance to listen to their personal stories about how they got to where they are today. It is truly inspiring and I encourage everyone to join us on the day!”
The event takes place on Saturday April 20, from 3pm at the Pyramids Centre Glasshouse, Southsea. For tickets go to communityintegration. urbond.org.
