Asda staff treated poorly?
I heard through this paper and online about the staff colleagues at Gosport Asda going out on strike recently citing a "toxic, bullying culture" by the management, and it sounds very concerning, for them at least.
Asda has always been a really good, diverse store – for customers anyway – with some excellent, hardworking and very caring colleagues.
It sounds like the workers are being treated very badly now, and the management's attitude (as the colleagues said), sounds disgraceful, uncaring and very unprofessional.
They even said that fire safety and health and safety is sometimes ignored.
The above are essential knowledge, skills and practice in practically any workplace – or should be, particularly with high numbers of customers and staff, just like any other supermarket.
So, why doesn't somebody or their union representative report this to the HSE "on the quiet", in confidence? Surely they (HSE) would be very interested?
One day, a colleague confided to me that throughout the Covid-19 pandemic they were regarded as heroes and key workers – quite rightly, all things considered. But now the situation appears to be very different.
I once worked at a big wholesale store (Makro
Fareham) where I (and many colleagues) had a very unhappy time (even my health seriously suffered towards the end).
The management were very unreasonable and mostly didn't care about anything except about the business and money.
So the Asda situation mentioned above sounds very familiar. The best of luck to Asda colleagues and the union in getting this disgraceful situation sorted out.
