‘Hopefully I will get the chance to release my emotions – skipper Pack

-

‘Now there’s one more hurdle to overcome against a very good Barnsley side.’

Growing up a Pompey fan, Pack was present at seminal moments in the club’s history - including when Harry Redknapp’s heroes reached the Premier League in 2003.

Pack was on the pitch when promotion was sealed against Burnley and then the title was picked up against Rotherham.

Now the 33-year-old is driven to create similar memories for a new generation of supporters.

He said: ‘I was at Burnley and Rotherham and ran on the pitch after both of those games - I took a bit of the Fratton turf home with me!

‘Of course I want to get up as soon as I can, but the potential to do it in front of our own fans and with my family there watching me is something special.

‘I want to get the job done and then be able to be in those emotions, I almost have to hold back now.

‘Hopefully I get the chance to release those emotions - I can’t wait for it.’

Pompey boss John Mousinho believes tomorrow will be a ‘fantastic occasion’ for everyone connected with the club.

The Blues could have clinched both promotion and the title with victory at Bolton, but honours were shared at the Toughsheet

Stadium.

Afterwards, Mousinho said: ‘There was talk in the week whether it was better to go and do it at Fratton. But we were desperate to try and get the job done here.

‘Obviously we couldn’t, but going back to Fratton with the opportunity to do it in front of the long-suffering home fans and needing a point will be a fantastic occasion.”

Bolton are also in action tomorrow, with victory at home to Shrewsbury taking them to within a point of second-placed Derby.

‘It was a good performance and we deserved more,’ Trotters boss Ian Evatt said of the draw with Pompey. ‘There can be turns left, right and centre. So, the most important for us is to win the game on Tuesday.

‘We have to pick the players up because they are disappointed. They know we should have won the game.’
