Forest were sanctioned in March for breaching profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) by £34.5million above their permitted threshold of £61million.

They immediately cited their unhappiness at an independent commission’s ruling, with their defence centred around the sale of Brennan Johnson to Tottenham on the final day of the 2023 transfer window, which occurred a short period later than necessary.

They soon confirmed their intention to appeal, which will now be heard in the week after they visit Everton in a crunch Premier League game on Sunday.

Former British and Commonwealth superlightweight champion Willie Limond has died at the age of 45.

The Scotsman had been in hospital after having a suspected seizure while driving, reports the BBC.

The Glaswegian won 42 of his 48 professional fights from 1999 to 2023 – including 13 KOS – although only three bouts took place after 2016.

Limond was originally a footballer, playing five times for Albion Rovers in the late 1990s.

In a post on social media, his son Jake said his "dad passed away in the early hours of the morning".

"He fought on for near enough 10 days. Warrior," he added on Instagram.

David Maxwell described riding in this year’s Grand National as “better than anything I could ever have dreamed of ” after finishing sixth on Ain’t That A Shame at Aintree.

Seventeenth in the hands of Rachael Blackmore when fancied for the race in 2023, the 10-year-old returned to Liverpool for a second crack, having been purchased by the property developer to fulfil his long-held ambition of riding in the National.

Sent off at 40-1, the Thyestes Chase scorer was still in contention at the second last, with the 45-year-old admitting for one brief second he allowed himself to dream of joining the decorated list of amateur pilots to win the National.
