Pair behind bars after attempted jewellers robbery
Two men have been jailed for a combined total of fourand-a-half years following an attempted robbery at a jewellers.
Police were called to a jewellers in Cascades Shopping Centre around 11.05am on Sunday, January 21. A Shell garage on Eastern Road was also targeted shortly afterwards.

Brimecome, 37, of Milton Road in Portsmouth, was charged with attempted robbery, making off without making payment, theft from a shop, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, and assaulting an emergency worker.
Stuart Simmons, 42, of Kingscott Road in Cosham, was charged with attempted robbery, dangerous driving, making off without making payment, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, and theft from a shop.
Both admitted the offences at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on January 23 and were sentenced as follows at Portsmouth Crown Court last Friday.
Brimecome was jailed for two years and six months for attempted robbery. He was also jailed for: theft – four months, making off without payment – four months, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place – eight months, and assaulting an emergency worker – four months.
Simmons was jailed for two years for attempted robbery. He was also jailed for: theft – four months, making off without payment – four months, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place – eight months, dangerous driving – nine months with a 12-month disqualification from driving.
Police staff investigator Martin Khunga said: “These sentences send a clear message to thieves we will relentlessly pursue you and the courts take these kinds of incidents very seriously.”
