Gary group gets $25,000 grant
The Gary Alumni Pathways to Students is set to receive a $25,000 grant from the Legacy Foundation.
Since 2016, GAPS has spearheaded programs at West Side Leadership Academy to help students learn about career paths — often by having alumni relate their own experiences.
The grant will allow the organization to help pay staff costs, said alumni and community resource coordinator Zanetta Miller. Upcoming events include College Day on Nov. 20; Girls Ignited, a workshop series, on Jan. 7, and Career Day on April 5, which is expected to include more than 90 panelists, she said.
“To meet the mission of GAPS, our goals are threefold — built on programming, partnerships and permanence,” Executive Director Diane JacksonChapman said in a release. “Our program will also connect alumni collectively and individually with students and administration, and prepare them for academic, career and personal success.”
