Knox man faces 51 fraud, theft charges for pur­chases

A Knox man is fac­ing 51 charges af­ter re­port­edly us­ing co-work­ers’ credit cards to make more than $3,000 in pur­chases in Lake County.

Ron­ald Ray Guy, 32, was charged Wed­nes­day in Lake Su­pe­rior Court with 45 felony counts of fraud and six mis­de­meanor counts of theft.

Guy is ac­cused of taking credit cards from co-work­ers at Mid­west Pipe Coat­ing in Scher­erville and mak­ing “nu­mer­ous fraud­u­lent pur­chases” at busi­nesses across Lake and Porter coun­ties, a prob­a­ble cause af­fi­davit states.

Since June, Guy re­port­edly took per­sonal and com­pany credit cards from wal­lets left in desks or purses, mak­ing pur­chases at places such as Speed­way, Fam­ily Dol­lar, Wal­greens and CVS, ac­cord­ing to the af­fi­davit.

“Mr. Guy stated that he mostly bought gift cards with th­ese stolen credit cards to sup­port his gam­bling habit,” the af­fi­davit states.

The pur­chases made in Lake County on the cards to­taled $3,672.77, ac­cord­ing to the af­fi­davit.

A sin­gle count was filed for each time Guy used the credit cards in Lake County, the af­fi­davit states.

A hear­ing date and at­tor­ney were not listed for Guy as of Wed­nes­day af­ter­noon, court records show.
