Chilly Veterans Day, but even colder air coming

-

(Precipitation at 7 a.m. CDT)

Peeks of sun will make it feel just a little warmer, but Sunday’s Veterans Day high temperatures in the mid- to upper 30s will still be considerably below the normal 51-degree high for this date. And it’s going to get even colder quickly, as a strong cold front sweeps through our area overnight.

Once we fall below 32 degrees Sunday evening, the area’s weather may not warm much above that mark again until Wednesday. The leading edge of arctic-source high pressure will follow the cold front into northern Illinois and northwest Indiana on Monday with the coldest air arriving Tuesday, when daytime highs will likely hover in the mid- to upper 20s. Tuesday night and Wednesday morning will likely see our coldest weather so far with lows in the teens almost areawide and wind chills 0 to 5 degrees above.
