Funeral ser­vices set for doc­tor, phar­macy stu­dent

Memo­ri­als held for two women killed in mass shoot­ing last week

Funeral ser­vices have been set for two North­west In­di­ana women who were killed in a mass shoot­ing at a Chicago hospi­tal late Mon­day af­ter­noon.

Visi­ta­tion for Dayna Less, a phar­macy stu­dent from Dyer, In­di­ana, will be from 2-8 p.m. Sun­day at Lin­coln Ridge Funeral Home, 7607 W. Lin­coln Hwy., Crown Point.

Her funeral will be at 9 a.m. Mon­day, Nov. 26, at St. Ar­changel Michael Church, 1500 186th St., Lans­ing, Ill., with burial at St. Sava Monastery, 32377 N. Mil­wau­kee Ave., Lib­er­tyville, Ill., im­me­di­ately fol­low­ing.

Visi­ta­tion for Tam­era O’Neal, the doc­tor and orig­i­nal vic­tim, will be from 4-8 p.m. Fri­day at Haver­stock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., La­Porte.

A se­cond visi­ta­tion will be held prior to funeral ser­vices at 10 a.m. Dec. 1 at First Church of God, 2020 E. Lin­col­nway, La­Porte; with church ser­vices start­ing at 11 a.m. In­ter­ment will im­me­di­ate fol­low at Pine Lake Ceme­tery, 1367 Pine Lake Road, La­Porte.

O’Neal was shot to death Nov. 19 in front of Mercy Hospi­tal & Med­i­cal Cen­ter af­ter her for­mer fi­ance, Juan Lopez, con­fronted her about re­turn­ing her en­gage­ment ring. O’Neal had bro­ken off the en­gage­ment weeks be­fore she was to marry Lopez for rea­sons un­clear to her fam­ily, it was re­ported.

Less, a 2012 Lake Cen­tral grad­u­ate who en­dured mi- graine headaches as a teenager be­fore surgery helped her, was ex­it­ing an el­e­va­tor when she was killed.

A Chicago po­lice of­fi­cer, Sa­muel Jimenez, also died in the shoot­ing.

Lopez, who died in the shoot­ing, had a his­tory of do­mes­tic vi­o­lence.
