Munster High School juniors take honors
Munster High School juniors Cynthia Chockalingam and Shriya Iyer placed first and second, respectively, in the Seton Hall University Sustainable Development Challenge. The competition, open to high school students across the country, was sponsored by the university’s School of Diplomacy and International Relations. To enter the challenge, students were asked to submit a 300-500 word statement that describes an innovative approach or idea for addressing any of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to help end poverty, fight inequality and injustice and tackle climate change by 2030. Chockalingam and Iyer were among 10 finalists selected to present their ideas to a panel of judges at the university in South Orange, N.J. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was held virtually. Chockalingam’s first-place prize included a $2,500 cash prize and a $10,000 scholarship ($2,500 annually) to attend Seton Hall University. As the secondplace finisher, Iyer received a $1,000 cash prize and a $6,000 ($1,500 annually) scholarship to attend Seton Hall University.
