Southwold Sailing Club has been awarded £10,000 from the Big Lottery Fund to buy six boats and train five instructors in a bid to inspire people to embrace the sport. Robin Watkins, the commodore of Southwold Sailing Club said his aim was to encourage people to abandon a ‘Game Boy’ culture of mobile phones and video games. He said: ‘Sailing can be challenging at times, but if you pick the right day then you can have a really good experience. It is about getting people off their backsides. They will get wet and tired, but they will come away with a good experience.’
