NORTH-WEST YACHT TOWED INTO WHITEHAVEN

-

A 25ft yacht had to be towed into Whitehaven harbour on 7 September after suffering engine failure. Members of St Bees RNLI received reports just after 4pm about the yacht which was en route to Whitehaven.

A spokesman for St Bees RNLI said: ‘The volunteer crew quickly arrived on scene but unfortunately due to the state of the tide they were unable to tow the vessel into Whitehaven Harbour until after 9pm.

‘As the sailing boat and its skipper were not in any immediate danger it was decided that the best course of action was for the lifeboat to return to the station and wait for the tide.’ He said St Bees RNLI flank station at Workington launched at around 9pm and towed the yacht safely into Whitehaven Harbour where they were met by members of Whitehaven HM Coastguard.
