BRISTOL CHANNEL BOATERS

Practical Boat Owner - - Cruising -

Mike and Cathy Yuill Boat Westerly Tempest 31 Zephyrus Berth Watchet Marina Mike and Cathy live three miles from Watchet, so are perfectly placed for day or weekend trips and longer cruises. They bought Zephyrus in May 2016 as a wedding present to themselves, so she’s rather a special boat. Zephyrus can easily dry out on her bilge-keels and Mike says that bilge-keelers are by far the best kind of Bristol Channel boats. Zephyrus routinely takes the ground down at Watermouth Cove and Ilfracombe.

Cardiff Bay is a regular weekend hop, 20 miles across from Watchet, and Zephyrus has cruised upstream to Sharpness and Gloucester. Further down on the Welsh side, Mike and Cathy love the anchorages around the Gower Peninsula and are also fond of Castlebeach Bay, just inside Milford Haven. When I spoke to them in June, Zephyrus was heading down-Channel to Oxwich Bay, on the south side of the Gower, and then on towards Milford Haven before cruising up the west coast of Wales.
