UK’S FIRST NATIONAL MARINE PARK
Plymouth Sound and its environs could become the UK’s first National Marine Park. Plymouth City Council is putting together a bid for European Union and government funding for a feasibility study. It stresses that although the plans are in their ‘very early stages’, it will ensure that marine stakeholders are consulted through the Marine Management Organisation.
The move comes after a national conference, ‘Marine Parks: Bringing it all back home’, was held in the city in June. At the event delegates agreed that Plymouth was ‘the natural home for the UK’s first marine park.’
