Lead carbon battery technology
Huge amounts of research are going into battery technology with potential developments to benefit boat owners. Adding carbon to the negative electrode of lead acid batteries, for instance, has been shown to significantly reduce sulphation and thereby increase battery life.
At the same time it boosts charge acceptance rates, which helps to replenish a battery bank more quickly.
DBS Leoch has launched two new ranges that adopt this technology, the LRC Lead Carbon and PLH+C Pure Lead Carbon. The former is rated for an impressive 4,000 cycles at 60% discharge – that’s roughly four times the number of the best conventional lead acid batteries. The Pure Lead Carbon models have a particularly high charge acceptance rate and can be recharged to 95% of total capacity in only 60 minutes.
