About the Author

William Stanton learned to sail first as a teenager, then during a three-year period in the Royal Navy, quickly followed by a radical change of direction to university, when he bought Linette, a West Solent One Design. Since then he has owned a Memory 19, five and six metre Peterboats, the prototype Nigel Irens 22ft lugger Romilly, a Contest 29 and now a Rival 34.
