Expert technical divers, cameramen and biologists have recovered 57 lost lobster pots, hundreds of metres of rope and several fishing nets from the bottom of the Killary Fjord in County Galway.

The Ghost Fishing Foundation, supported by Gesellschaft zur Rettung der Delphine (a dolphin and whale protection society) and Scubadive West carried out the work.

The retrieved lobster pots were returned to the fishermen based at Rosroe Pier.

The Ghost Fishing Foundation said a lot of marine life was found dead in the pots, although the divers saved some species, including lobsters, crabs, conger eels and a dogfish.
