JERSEY SAILORS PUT AT RISK

-

Permanent repairs should begin shortly to Sorel Lighthouse on Jersey after the navigation aid was twice vandalised.

The island’s harbour master, Captain Bill Sadler, has condemned the incidents, which saw the external glass panes and one of the internal red glass filters deliberately smashed.

Captain Sadler said the actions of the vandals had ‘put mariners lives in danger’.

The lighthouse, which was closed until temporary repairs could be made, warns mariners of the dangers of the Paternosters Reef to the west of Jersey and Les Dirouelles and Echrehou Reefs to the east.
