Practical Boat Owner

PBO reader David Goad got in touch to enthuse about a product that makes transferring fuel from cans to his boat’s tanks easy and free of mess. “I’ve finally cracked the problem with a syphon pump called a Jiggle,” he says. “Now all I do is place one end of the syphon tube in the boat’s tank, the other end (with the Jiggle attachment) in the fuel can and jiggle it up and down until the pipe fills and the flow starts.”

It’s possible to siphon from a can with a length of hosepipe, using the dinghy pump to pressurise the air above the fuel in the can to start the siphon. All that’s needed is to use kitchen towel to make a reasonably airtight seal around the pipes. However, at a cost of well under £10, why not follow David’s example and invest in a Jiggle – they’re widely available.
