Exploring the island
Lemnos is a quiet, unspoilt island dotted with archaeological sights, some dating back to 4,000BC. There’s even the ruins of a temple in the Neilson hotel, Portomyrina Palace, which is just half an hour from the tiny airport. Neilson run guided bike rides each morning and afternoon, which is a great way to get to know the island. We spent a lovely morning cycling through the agricultural land – past pomegranate orchards, whitewashed villas and rich-smelling vineyards.
