Great compromise
If you want the best of both worlds, why not go for a Great British compromise and buy a motor-sailer? What’s not to like? They have roomy hulls, a wheelhouse and a decent sized engine. You own a set of sails which are both a source of motive power and are low tech stabilisers. You get predictable passage times and good fuel economy. Using sail and power together produces an easy motion at sea and the sails are a back-up should you ever have an engine problem.
